Cosmid vectors are very valuable in structural and functional analysis of complex genomes as they accommodate genomic DNA fragments in the size range of 30 to 42 kb. The SuperCos I Vector system is a novel 7.9 kb cosmid vector containing bacteriophage promoter sequences flanking a unique cloning site.
This structure allows rapid synthesis of 'walking' probes specific to the extreme ends of insert DNA. The SuperCos 1 vector also contains genes for the amplification and expression of cosmid clones in eukaryotic cells.
